Balanced Effort Fuels Manhattan's Win Over Rider

Box Score (PDF)

Riverdale, NY -
Fueled by a balanced attack, Manhattan posted a rousing 3-1 win over Rider in MAAC action at Gaelic Park.

In arguably the most complete effort of the year, the Jaspers controlled the tempo for most of the game while making timely stops to complement an impressive offensive attack.

After being on the doorstop on a pair of occasions, Manhattan finally broke through in the 22nd minute as junior Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) blasted home the first goal of the afternoon after Carmen Carbonell saved sophomore Eve Montgomery's (Abington, MA / Whitman-Hanson Regional) initial offering. The Jaspers added to their advantage in the 63rd minute when junior Tia Painilainen (Espoo, Finland / Arizona) scored, off a double assist from classmates Alexa Chapman (Morganville, MD / Marlboro) and Lindsey Healy (Vernon, NJ / Pope John XXIII Regional). Rider responded with a goal in the 70th minute as Hailey Russell found the back of the net off a Cameron Santers feed to trim its deficit to one.

However, junior Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) silenced any thoughts of a comeback with an absolute laser from 30 yards out in the 87th minute stealing the ball away from the Broncs.
