Manhattan improves to 2-5 in the MAAC, and 4-14 overall. The loss is just the second in the league for Marist, as the team falls to 7-2 in the MAAC and 15-6 on the year.
Highlights:
- Sophomore guard Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin) put in a career-high 20 points on Sunday to lead all scorers. She went 6-9 from the floor, including 2-2 from three, and went a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. To add to her career night, Taitt nabbed a game-high four steals.
- Junior forward Julie Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) added a career-high 16 points to the Jaspers' offense, going a near-perfect 5-6 from the floor. Hoier got the job done on the boards as well, pulling down nine.
- Freshman D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) rounded-out the Jaspers' double-digit scorers, adding 13 of her own on the afternoon. She also contributed a game-high (tie) three assists.
- Manhattan center Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds Sunday, her second double-figure rebounding game in a row. The MAAC's leading player on the boards, she averages a MAAC-best 8.4 per game.
- Marist entered Sunday's contest averaging more than 69 points per game, but were held to just 51 against the Jaspers, shooting 30 percent for the game.
- Manhattan's 69 points was the most scored by the Jaspers this season. The Js shot 43.4 percent for the game, and more than 42 percent from beyond the three-point line, both ranking as second-best performances by the team this season. Manhattan performed solidly at the foul line as well, going 15-20.
- The Jaspers committed just 12 turnovers in the contest, just one off the team's lowest TO performance of the season (vs. Wright State).
- Manhattan held the Red Foxes to two field goals in the first quarter, but Marist was able to trail just 15-13 at the end of the period due to eight trips to the foul line.
- The Jaspers pushed through in the second, using a 19-11 scoring advantage to extend the lead to 10 at the half.
- The Red Foxes outscored Manhattan 19-16 in the third, shooting 42.9 percent in the quarter. Marist's Alana Gilmer cut the Jaspers' lead to four on a layup with less than 50 seconds to play in the period, but Hoier responded with her second three of the game 30 seconds later, giving Manhattan a seven-point advantage going into the fourth.
- Taitt opened the fourth with four points in the first minute, putting the Manhattan lead back to double-digits at 11. The next five were scored by guard Lizahya Morgan (East Hartford, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet), giving the Jaspers a 16-point cushion. Two more points from Taitt capped the 11-0 run and put the Jaspers up 18 with 6:56 to play.
- Scoring 19 in the fourth, Manhattan held Marist to just eight points in the quarter. The Jaspers led by as many as 20 in the fourth, their biggest advantage of the game. Using it to their benefit, the Jaspers utilized the clock down the stretch, holding the ball for the full shot clock to limit Marist's scoring chances as the clock wound down.
- Manhattan led for more than 32 minutes of the game, never relinquishing the advantage after taking it from the Red Foxes with about seven minutes left to go in the first.
- Manhattan took home a 20-16 advantage in the paint, and out-rebounded Marist 27-21 on the defensive boards. Manhattan converted Marist's 15 turnovers to 14 points.
- The win on Sunday marks the Jaspers' first road victory of the season.
- Marist's Rebekah Hand scored a team-high 16 points for the Red Foxes. Gilmer added 13 and a team-high eight rebounds.
