Manhattan improves to 3-12 on the year and 1-3 in MAAC play. The Gaels fall to 1-16 and 0-6 in the league.
Highlights:
- Manhattan's leading rebounder, Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) pulled down a career-high 14 Friday night, besting her former career-high of 12, which she has hit four times during her two seasons as a Jasper. Warley added a game-high four steals, tying another career-high. She leads Manhattan in steals this season, with a total of 32.
- Freshmen D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) and Kania Pollock (Queens, NY / The Mary Louis Academy) combined for 27 of Manhattan's 55 points. Davis led the Jaspers with 14, while Pollock scored 13, including nine points in the first quarter. Davis went 6-8 from the floor, while Pollock added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to her night's performance.
- Earning her first collegiate start, Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) tied her career-high of eight points, making her the Jaspers' third-leading scorer of the game. She earned five boards, including four on the defensive end, as well as two assists and two blocks.
- Iona scored the first five points of the game, as Manhattan was left scoreless until a jumper from Pollock put them on the board at the 7:47 mark in the first quarter. More than halfway through the opening period, the Gaels continued to lead 10-9, but the advantage was taken away by Miceus when she hit a layup with 2:40 left to play. The Jaspers held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
- Manhattan forced 18 turnovers on Iona, converting those missteps to 21 points. The Jaspers also held a 24-12 advantage in the paint, while earning 12 second-chance points to Iona's five.
- The Jaspers out-rebounded the Gaels 42-34, earning 30 defensive boards, the team's second-best defensive rebounding performance of the season (33 at Holy Cross). This is the fourth time this season the Jaspers have earned 40 or more rebounds in a game, and the second time in two contests (a season-best 46 at Siena on January 11).
- Manhattan shot 40.7 percent for the game, shooting over 40 percent in three quarters and earning the third-best field goal performance of the season. The Jaspers held the Gaels to 21.6 percent shooting on the night, and just 11 field goals.
- Tori Lesko led Iona with 12 points, while Morgan Rachu earned nine rebounds, including seven defensive boards.
