DeLeo Lifts Manhattan To 1-1 Draw With Binghamton

Box Score (PDF)

Riverdale, NY -
Manhattan battled Binghamton to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.

With the draw, the Jaspers are now 1-2-1 while the Bearcats are 2-3-2.

In a match that was delayed almost two hours due to lightning in the area, both teams started slowly from the onset.

Binghamton struck first in the game's 29th minute as Kayla Saager played a through ball perfectly from Barbara Badeer before beating senior Kelly DiGregorio (Centereach, NY / St. Anthony's).

The Bearcats appeared poised to add to the lead, but DiGregorio made an impressive sprawling save on a Saager free kick while swinging the momentum in the process.

Manhattan would fight back to tie it up in the 39th minute as senior Annie Doerr (Pittsford, NY / Our Lady of Mercy) intercepted a pass in the Binghamton zone and delivered the ball in front of the box, before sophomore Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) took over. DeLeo fired a shot that Haylee Poltorak deflected with a leaping save, before DeLeo collected the rebound and blasted it past the Binghamton keeper to draw the Jaspers even at 1-1.

After halftime, the Manhattan offense picked up steam and applied a steady pressure throughout the second half. Sophomore Lindsey Healy (Sussex, NY / Pope John XXIII Regional) got a good look on a header in the 72nd minute before classmate Shelby Jones (Greenville, NC / Junius H. Rose) went just wide off a cross in the 74th minute. On the other end, Essie Bonney would provide the final scoring threat of the second half for the visitors, only to be denied by a sprawling DiGregorio.

In overtime, there were very few opportunities on offense for each team thanks to impressive defense on each side.

DiGregorio made four saves between the pipes while her adversary Poltorak also had four stops.
