Highlights:
- The Jaspers (0-16, 0-5 MAAC) won their first opening set of the season, toppling Niagara 25-23 behind seven first-set kills from Donovan. The win was also the third set taken by Manhattan this season.
- Saturday's match saw 17 tie scores, including the first set where the score was tied a total of 15 times with five lead changes.
- Senior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) posted an assists-digs double-double, the second of her career and her second this season. She earned a season-high 29 assists for the Jaspers and 16 digs (tied for a match high), bringing her career dig total to 1,248, which pushes her into seventh on the program's all-time digs list.
- Rehrer also nabbed a season-high seven kills and 7.5 points.
- Sophomore middle-blocker Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) put up four blocks for Manhattan, tying her season-high first posted against Lafayette on August 31. Hoener's 0.77 blocks per set ranks her eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). She has 36 on the year.
- As a team, Manhattan earned nine total blocks to Niagara's eight. The Jaspers also totaled 62 points for the entirety of the match, besting Niagara by one.
- Donovan tallied a match-high four aces, another career-high. She was also one dig away from a kills-dig double-double, earning nine digs on Saturday and topping her career best.
- Manhattan's Samantha Wagner (Sandy, UT / Hofstra) earned two aces against Niagara, giving her a 0.31 aces per set average, good for seventh-best in the MAAC.
- Manhattan earned a .184 hitting percentage against the Purple Eagles, the team's second best attack of the season.
- Niagara's Caroline Leitch led all players with 17 kills and a match-high 18.5 points, finishing with a .400 hitting percentage for the day. Leitch's teammate Jessica Streuer led the match with 40 assists.
- Saturday's match was dedicated to Friends of Karen, a nonprofit organization that provides vital and comprehensive support, at no cost, to families in the New York Tri-State region who are caring for a child battling cancer or another life-threatening illness. Manhattan volleyball was able to present representatives from Friends of Karen with $2,500 from fundraising done by the team to support the organization. In addition, the Jaspers hosted three honorary captains, 11-year-old Miah Bebe, 10-year-old Sophia Napoli, and 9-year-old King Singh, all childhood cancer survivors.
Manhattan will play Canisius Sunday, September 30 in Draddy Gymnasium to close out the weekend. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
