Riverdale, NY – The Manhattan men's soccer begins its quest to earn its second straight postseason appearance on Friday, August 24, as they travel down the I-95 corridor to face Navy in the season opener for a second straight season at 8:00 pm.

Fans can access a free live stream of the game on the Patriot League Network via Stadium. Navy will also provide live stats.

Offense On Retainer
The Jaspers return a large portion of their offense from a season ago.
  • Of the 71 points they scored in 2017, 66 points are back for 2018, good for 92 percent.
  • This includes 25 of the team's 26 goals.

Defensive Stand
Manhattan looks to build off a historic defensive effort from last season.
  • The Jaspers allowed 16 goals and collected eight shutouts in 2017, both program records.
  • Manhattan allowed one goal or fewer in 14 of its 18 matches and did not allow more than one goal in a game in conference play.

O' Captains, Our Captains
Head Coach Jorden Scott has named juniors Marcellin Gohier and Tristan Doran as captains for the 2018 campaign.
  • Gohier enters his second season in Riverdale after earning the program's first MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year honor in 2017.
  • Doran is in his third year as a Jasper after starting 13 games on the back line last season.

Preseason Praise
Gohier was also tabbed as the Preseason All-MAAC Goalkeeper. The Jaspers were slotted fifth in the preseason poll. The full results are linked above.

Senior Strength
Manhattan boasts seven seniors on its roster: Ryan Shields, Connor Hayes, Troy Carrington (fifth year), Jean-Baptiste Tamas-Leloup, Callum Carsley, Lucas Da Silva and Eduardo Avalos.
  • Shields, Carrington and Carsley notched career-highs in points last season.
  • Da Silva, a 2017 All-MAAC Second Team recipient, led the team with eight goals and 18 points.
  • Hayes set a career-best goals-against average at 1.63 in net.

Jorden Scott on the JSN
Six-year Head Coach Jorden Scott spent time with the Jasper Sports Network ahead of the season opener. Among the topics included in their conversation:
  • The team's emphasis on recovery heading into this season.
  • Evaluating the preseason matches against FDU and Army.
  • What to expect against the Midshipmen.

Starting Off Right
Manhattan seeks its second-straight win on opening day. The Jaspers last won two straight season debuts in 2003 and 2004, beating Fordham twice.

Scouting Report: Navy
  • The Midshipmen are ranked ninth in the 2018 Patriot League Preseason Poll after finishing 2-13-2 last year.
  • Manhattan defeated Navy 1-0 in the season lid-lifter for both sides last year. Carrington found a loose ball and scored the only goal in the 77th minute at Gaelic Park.
  • Navy has 12 newcomers on its roster and 19 total underclassmen.
  • Head Coach Tim O'Donohue enters his third season at the helm of the Midshipmen.
  • This is first time the Jaspers and Midshipmen will face off in Annapolis since 2002 and the third time overall in that span.
