Jersey City, NJ - Manhattan softball extended its win streak to seven games on Wednesday, May 2, sweeping Saint Peter's in Jersey City. The Jaspers have won six consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games, as well, improving to 8-10 in the league and 24-23 overall.
Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY / Tamarac) went 5-8 on the day, with three doubles and three RBIs. She picked up two of her RBIs in game one, helping the Jaspers to an 8-2 victory. The winning pitcher in that match-up, she also pitched a complete game, giving up just four hits and walking none. She's now 9-9 on the season.
The Jaspers combined for 12 hits in game one, including doubles from Matazinsky (2),
Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ / Saint Joseph's),
Kat Prevo (San Diego, CA / Our Lady of Peace), and
Emma Kindblom (Wilbraham, MA / Wilbraham & Monson). Manhattan combined for just two strikeouts at bat, and left just two on base for all seven innings.
The Jaspers took game two 7-4, with freshman catcher
Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) going 3-4, driving in three runs off two doubles. Teammate
Adriana Gambino (Stamford, CT / Westhill) also went 3-4 in the game, with a two-run homer.
Game two winning pitcher
Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's), now 9-9 for the year, went three innings, letting up three hits and one run. Sophomore
Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) earned the save, her second of the season, going four innings and letting up five hits and three runs.
