IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…

Manhattan returned to Riverdale last Saturday after a three-game road trip, dropping a close 11-6 battle with Niagara. Senior Sarah Lang set a career-high with her 26th and 27th goals of the season, while junior Molly Fitzpatrick jumped to 12th place in program history with her 113th and 114th career points. Check out the highlights below.

Afterwards, Head Coach Katie McConnell met with the JSN to talk about those two players' impact this season, the team's solid first half play and what to expect for the rest of the season.

SENIOR DAY FESTIVITIES

The Jaspers will honor eight seniors on Saturday before their game against the Saints. Molly Flores, Melissa Vogelgesang, Liz Pierson, Katie Tucker, Julia LoRusso, Maddie Regal, Sarah Lang and Kara Hodapp will take part in a ceremony honoring their careers that is expected to begin at approximately 2:35 pm. Families of the participating seniors are encouraged to arrive before 2:15 pm.

SWARMING THE SCORER

In three of Manhattan's four conference games, the Jasper defense has done well to limit their opponent's leading scorer. The table below illustrates the current leader in goals for Canisius, Quinnipiac and Niagara and how they fared against the Jaspers.

Player Team Goals per Game Goals vs. Jaspers
Jourdan Roemer Canisius 2.9 1
Ashley Bobinski Quinnipiac 2.0 1
Rachel MacCheyne Niagara 3.0 1

STEADY AS SHE GOES

Dating back to last year, Hodapp has registered a point in 13 straight games and in 26 of her last 28 contests.

DRAWING CONCLUSIONS

Manhattan's trio of Hodapp, junior Emma Kaishian and freshman Carmella Liscio have won 28, 34 and 27 draw controls this year, respectively. The Jaspers are the only team in the MAAC this season to have three different players with at least 27 draw controls. Monmouth is the only other school to have three players with over 25 draw controls.

WE'RE GOING HOME

Following Wednesday's matchup against Iona, Manhattan will play the rest of their games at Gaelic Park.

SCOUTING THE GAELS

Iona sits at 7-6 in 2018 and 2-2 in conference play. The Gaels have beaten Quinnipiac and Siena in back-to-back games after falling to Niagara and Canisius to open conference competition.

Manhattan's closest geographic rival boasts a stout defense, anchored by reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Shannon McCaffrey. The netminder allows 8.56 goals per game and has a .527 save percentage.

Senior Pamela Giordano paces Iona's attack with 35 goals. She is also tied for the team lead in draw controls with classmate Jenna Tolzmann at 24.

Wednesday marks the 14th meeting all-time between the Jaspers and the Gaels. Iona holds the edge in the series 8-5, but Manhattan won the annual battle last year. Junior Molly Fitzpatrick delivered the game-winning goal in the second overtime of a 10-9 win in Riverdale back on April 12.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS

Siena enters the week at 4-8, with an 0-3 record against MAAC foes and an 0-5 record outside of Loudonville, NY. The Saints play Niagara on Wednesday before making the trip to Riverdale.

Sophomore Alexis Deaken leads the Saints and the MAAC with 40 goals this year. Freshman Kerry Gerety is second on the team with 32 points and has three MAAC Rookie of the Week awards. In goal, junior Sammy Horton features a 13.97 goals-against average with 123 saves.

Manhattan and Siena will engage for the 23rd time. The Jaspers' 16-6 record against the Saints is the best versus any current MAAC opponent. Last season, Manhattan recorded a 15-12 road win on April 15 as Fitzpatrick, Hodapp and senior Sarah Lang each tallied five points.

ON THE HORIZON

Manhattan welcomes Monmouth to the Bronx on Wednesday, April 18 for a 4:00 pm duel.
