West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth defeated Manhattan 1-0 in the series finale between the teams as the MU Baseball Field.

The Jaspers fall to 20-23 and 9-6 in the MAAC while the Hawks improve to 19-20 and 9-6 in the league.

Over the first three frames, senior Brendan Bisset recorded both Manhattan hits before the Jaspers threatened in the top of the fourth with a two-out rally.

Freshman Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) and senior Brandon Valls (Miami, FL / Dean CC) each singled but LHP Ryan Lillie induced a fly out to keep the Jaspers off the board.

Monmouth would break through with what would prove to be the lone run of the game in the sixth inning. Shaine Hughes was plunked to lead off the frame before quickly moving to second on a wild pitch. Hughes would then score on Zach Schild's one-out single through the right side.

In the top of the ninth, Manhattan threatened as junior Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) was hit with two outs but was unable to advance further.

Bisset was the lone Jasper to record multiple-hits while Barrella also reached safely twice.

Junior RHP Joe DiNizio (Middlesex, NJ / Middlesex) was outstanding on the mound, striking out four over 5.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball while sophomore RHP T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Joseph A. Foran) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, surrendering one run on three hits over 3.0 innings.

Hughes was 2-for-3 with a run to lead the way for Monmouth.

RHP Jordan McCrum worked a scoreless sixth to earn the win while RHP Austin Counsellor fired 3.0 hitless innings in collecting the save.

Manhattan will next host UAlbany on Wednesday, May 2 at 5:00 pm.
