New Rochelle, NY - The Manhattan College Jaspers (10-16, 7-8 MAAC) travel to New Rochelle, NY to take on inter-league rival Iona (2-24, 2-13) on Saturday, February 17. This is the second meeting of the two teams this season. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., and the match-up will be streamed live on ESPN3.
Top Storylines
- Last Outing: Manhattan played its second overtime game in as many contests, losing to Siena 56-54 on February 15 after a jumper by Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) at the buzzer was ruled too late to send the game into double OT. Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY / James Madison) put in 25 points for the Jaspers, while Grimme pulled down 20 rebounds, besting her previous career high of 15. She also scored 11 points in the game, earning her ninth double-double of the season.
- Manhattan is currently fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 61.3 points per game. The Jaspers are fifth in field goal percentage (.395) and in three-point field goal percentage (.309), with Grimme, Tatum, and sophomore Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) ranked among the top 30 scorers in the league. The Jaspers lead the MAAC in rebounding defense at 33.8 per game. The team is fourth in steals per game (8.2) and assists per game (14.0), and third in blocks per game (3.7).
- Iona is led by junior guard Alexis Lewis, who sits at eighth in MAAC scoring (14.5 per game) and fourth in rebounding (8.5 per game). Freshman Toyosi Abiola, a favorite for MAAC Rookie of the Year honors, averages 12.2 points per game, as well.
- Previous Meeting: The Jaspers overcame an 18-2 Iona run in the fourth quarter to outlast the Gaels 67-63 at Draddy Gymnasium on January 18. Senior Taylor Williams (Windsor, CT / Capital Preparatory Magnet) led Manhattan with a season-high 18 points on 6-10 shooting, including 4-8 from three. Cajou added 16 points and three assists. Grimme recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds, including 12 defensive boards. She also contributed three steals and three blocks. Tatum earned nine assists in the game, just one off her career high of 10. She added five steals and eight points.
- Manhattan leads the all-time series against Iona 46-31.
- Tatum currently ranks 15th among Division I players in three-point field goal percentage (45.1). She is 30th in the country for steals overall this season (68) and 48th in steals per game (2.62). Tatum also leads the MAAC in these categories, as well as in assists per game (4.4). In the Jaspers' January 28 game against Monmouth, she threw the 300th assist of her Manhattan career. She now has 331, good for eighth place on the Jaspers' all-time list.
- Grimme is currently seventh in the MAAC in scoring (14.6) per game and third in rebounding (8.5) per game. She is first in offensive rebounding (3.7) per game and second in blocked shots (1.7) per game.
- Along with Tatum and Grimme, Cajou is among the MAAC's top 30 scorers, and ranks second in the league in field-goal percentage (.492). She is fourth in assists (3.9) per game, seventh in steals per game (1.9), and holds the league's fourth-best assist/turnover ratio at 1.9.
