Jaspers Take On Detroit Mercy In Home Match-Up

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball will be back in action Saturday, November 24 against the Detroit Mercy Titans at 2:00 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium.

Saturday will also mark the program's High School Day, with free admission to all high school players and their coaches. In order to receive free admission, all teams must send their roster to Assistant Coach Allie Bassetti at abassetti01@manhattan.edu.

Game Notes:

Last Outing
Manhattan (1-3) was unable to overcome tough defensive pressure from Stony Brook on Saturday, November 17, losing to the Seawolves at home 79-48. Manhattan shot 41.9 percent for the game, including going 7-10 in the third quarter and 6-10 in the final 10 minutes. The Jaspers went 5-15 (33.3 percent) from three-point range. 

Top Performers
D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) led the Jaspers with 18 points in the team's contest against Stony Brook, setting a new career- and season-high. She added two steals on the day.

Line-Up Shake Up
Manhattan shook things up with a new starting five Saturday, after using the same combination for the first three games. The Jaspers' starters against Stony Brook included Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland), Lynette Taitt (Irvington, NJ / Bishop Loughlin), Davis, Tuuli Menna (Helsinki, Finland / Richmond), and Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan).

Rookie of the Week
After her performance against the Seawolves, Davis was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on November 19. She currently leads the Jaspers in points per game (11.5), shooting 41.5 percent from the floor and 29.4 from three. With four starts under her belt, she has nine total steals so far this season, and is averaging 2.5 rebounds per game. 

Meet the Titans
Detroit Mercy (1-4) enters its 42nd season of women's basketball and fourth under head coach Bernard Scott. The Titans are a young team with just two seniors and six freshmen, including five newcomers out of the 11 players on the roster overall.

Scott has led the Titans to two winning campaigns in three seasons as head coach and an appearance in the title game of the 2017 Horizon League Championship. Senior guards Brittney Jackson and Lola Ristovski  have combined for 143 3-pointers and played at least 87 games played in their Titan careers. The Titans led the Horizon League in blocks in 2017-18, swatting away 4.0 shots per game and totaling 120 blocks in 30 contests.

First Meeting
Saturday's head-to-head will be the first meeting between the two teams.
