Poughkeepsie, NY -
A poor shooting effort was the difference Saturday night as the Manhattan Jaspers (5-10, 2-2 MAAC) lost to the Marist Red Foxes (7-8, 3-0 MAAC) 65-40 on the road at McCann Arena. Senior guard Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY / James Madison) led Manhattan with 16 points, the only Jasper to score in double-figures. She added four steals to the mix, as well as three rebounds.

As a team, Manhattan shot just 21.4 percent from the floor on 12-56 shooting, the Jaspers' worst shooting percentage for a single game this season. On the other end, Marist put together a 50 percent shooting night, including 33.3 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Red Foxes out-rebounded the Jaspers by a slim margin of 34-33, though the wider 27-19 gap on the defensive boards led to less second-chance opportunities for Manhattan. Where the Jaspers did excel was from the foul line, where the team went 12-13 on the night, including 6-7 from Tatum. Since going 3-9 from the foul line against Penn State on December 3, Manhattan has improved to 82-102, or 80 percent from the charity stripe. In the past three games, Tatum has gone 14-15.

Jaspers' leading scorer Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) was held to just six points against the Red Foxes, though those six give her 1,188 for her career at Manhattan, good enough for 11th place on the school's all-time scoring list. Grimme needs just eight more points to jump into the top 10. She also led Manhattan with six rebounds at Marist, giving her 806 for her career and the sixth spot on the school's all-time rebounding list.

Up Next:
The Jaspers travel upstate for a western New York swing that includes stops at Canisius on Thursday, January 11 at 7 p.m. and at Niagara on Saturday, January 13 at 3 p.m. It will be the second time Manhattan has faced Canisius so far this season; the Jaspers topped the Golden Griffins 58-39 on January 4. It will be the first time Manhattan meets Niagara this year.
