Poughkeepsie, NY - Manhattan women's basketball starts a three-game road swing Saturday night against the Marist Red Foxes (6-8, 2-0 MAAC) at 7 p.m. in McCann Arena. The Jaspers (5-9, 2-1 MAAC) are coming off a dominant 58-39 home win against Canisius on Thursday, January 4.
Top Storylines:
- Manhattan held its opponent to less than 40 points for the second time this season as the Jaspers earned their second MAAC win of the season over Canisius. The first time was a 72-38 win over LIU Brooklyn on December 16.
- The Jaspers out-rebounded the Golden Griffins 44-30, including 32 defensive boards, on the way to the league victory. Manhattan is 3-0 this season when earning 40 or more rebounds, and 4-1 when out-rebounding their opponent.
- The Jaspers fell to Marist 81-76 when the teams last met on February 26, 2017 in McCann Arena. In that game, Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) tallied a career-high 34 points, including 30 in the second half.
- Grimme now ranks 12th on the Jaspers' all-time scoring list at 1,182 points. She sits just behind Cari-Lyn Piotrowski (1,187) who played 111 games for Manhattan from 1988-92. Grimme is also just 14 points away from breaking into the top 10.
- Grimme pulled down her 800th rebound against Canisius, bumping her into sixth place on the Jaspers' all-time rebounding list. She is 19 away from the top five all-time.
- Marist leads the all-time series 31-24. The Jaspers' last win against the Red Foxes came on February 8, 2016 when Manhattan defeated Marist 64-59. Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY / James Madison) finished with what was then a career-high 19 points, to go along with four assists and five steals.
- Marist earned the number two ranking in the 2017-18 MAAC preseason coaches' poll. Sophomore Rebekah Hand was named to the all-MAAC second team, while junior Maura Fitzpatrick was named to the all-MAAC third team.
