Niagara University, NY - Manhattan College women's basketball (6-10, 3-2 MAAC) takes on the Niagara Purple Eagles (5-10, 2-2 MAAC) Saturday, January 13 to close out the Jaspers' road trip to western New York that began at Canisius on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
Top Storylines:
- In the last match-up between the two teams on February 4, 2017 at the Gallagher Center, the Jaspers were unable to overcome a second-quarter run by the Purple Eagles, who extended their lead to as many as 30 points during the game, and came away with a 65-42 win. Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) led Manhattan with 13 points and seven rebounds, as well as five blocks.
- Niagara leads the all-time series 30-28. Manhattan last defeated the Purple Eagles on February 21, 2016 at the Gallagher Center, winning 58-49. Grimme posted a double-double in the game, with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
- Manhattan currently ranks third in the MAAC for scoring defense at 63.1 points per game, and fourth in field goal percentage at 39.1. The Jaspers are first in rebounding defense at 33.8 per game and third in steals, averaging 8.1 per contest.
- Niagara is led by senior Victoria Rampado, who dropped a career-high 41 points in the Purple Eagles' 73-68 victory over Siena on January 7. Rampado also led the team with 15 rebounds, tying her career-high, to record her MAAC-leading eighth double-double of the season.
- Niagara is third in the MAAC in scoring offense, earning 65.5 points per game. The team also leads in free throw percentage at 78.4. The Purple Eagles were picked to finish ninth in the league's preseason poll, while Rampado was named to the all-MAAC first team.
- The Jaspers have played 119 games without going into overtime, one of the longest active non-overtime streaks in Division I women's basketball. Manhattan last played an overtime game nearly four years ago on January 23, 2014, losing to Niagara 71-67 in single OT at Draddy Gymnasium.
