The Jaspers improve to 4-5-1 and 2-1 in the MAAC while the Gaels fall to 1-8-2 and 0-2-1 in the league.

Harwood's blast came from 25 yards out for an opposite top corner score in the 43rd minute in staking Manhattan to an insurmountable 1-0 lead.

Just over a minute into the second half, junior Caroline Taylor (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock) added to the lead with her first goal of the year on assists from freshman Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) and junior Emma Saul (Orchard Park, NY / Orchard Park).

The Jaspers would put the game out of reach in the 66th minute when sophomore Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) found the back of the net off an Erica Modena (Sr., Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) pass.

In the 87th minute, freshman Alexa Chapman (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) capped the scoring with her first career goal, a strike off a pass from sophomore Katina Cokinos (Dix Hills, NY / Canisius).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Harwood's score came after senior Nicole Aylmer (Garnerville, NY / North Rockland) blasted a header off the crossbar and Modena was denied on an outstanding 1v1 save by Iona keeper Tiffany Martinez.

- The Gaels had a first-half goal waived off on an offsides call in the 26th minute.

- Junior Kelly DiGregorio (Centerreach, NY / St. Anthony's) also made a sprawling save in the eighth minute to keep the match scoreless before making back-to-back saves on a 1v1 Iona opportunity in the 54th minute.

- DiGregorio recorded five saves in registering her second win and second shutout of the year.

- Taylor's goal was the second score of her career with her first also coming against Iona in 2015.

- Cokinos and DeLeo notched their first career points with assists.

- Saul's second assist in as many matches was her team-leading fourth of the year.

- Montefusco and Modena now are tied for the team lead with three goals.

- Modena's first assist of the year gives her 60 points for her career, leaving her just one point shy of third place in the all-time Manhattan annals. She also now has three goals and one assist in four career matches against the Gaels.

- The Jaspers have been victorious in 14-straight matches when scoring first dating back to the 2015 season and are 22-0-1 when finding the back of the net first since dropping a 2-1 decision to Monmouth on October 8, 2014.

- Manhattan has won three straight against Iona, outscoring the Gaels by a 12-1 count.

- The Jaspers leads the all-time series by a 14-9-4 count, including 8-4-1 at Gaelic Park.

- Coupled with the Men's Soccer team's 1-0 triumph over Iona, the Jaspers have now swept their local rivals in back-to-back seasons.

UP NEXT
- Manhattan will look to make it three in a row when the Jaspers travel to Marist on Saturday, September 30 with opening kick tabbed for 7:00 pm.
