Riverdale, NY - Fordham defeated Manhattan 3-0 in the annual Battle of the Bronx at Draddy Gymnasium.
The Rams won by scores of 25-22, 26-16 and 25-19 in moving to 4-0 on the year while the Jaspers fall to 0-4.
Senior Mary Donnelly (Temecula, CA / Chaparral) had a team-high six kills and seven digs while junior Zoe Lindsey (McHenry, IL / McHenry CC) had 12 assists and nine digs to pace Manhattan.
Junior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) also notched eight digs with freshman Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) adding four kills and three blocks.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* After Fordham jumped out to a 19-13 lead in the first set, Manhattan ripped off a 7-2 run to draw to within one at 21-20. Junior Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) led the charge with a pair of kills. Unfortunately, the Rams ended the set with a 4-2 spurt to take the set by a 25-22 count.
* After spotting Fordham a five-point lead in the second set, the Jaspers ripped off a 12-5 run thanks to three kills and an ace from Donnelly.
* The loss snapped Manhattan's seven-match winning streak in home openers.
* Fordham's Olivia Fairchild paced all players with 11 kills.
* A boisterous crowd of 300-plus showed up to support the Jaspers.
