Wappingers Falls, NY - Quinnipiac swept Manhattan by scores of 4-0 and 3-0 in a doubleheader at Dutchess Stadium.
The Bobcats improve to 17-27 and 10-10 in the MAAC while the Jaspers to 13-31 and 7-10 in the league.
Game Two
Junior LHP Tom Cosgrove (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) recorded his 200th career strikeout but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 3-0 decision to Quinnipiac in game two.
Cosgrove was the tough-luck losing pitcher, fanning eight, against just one walk, while yielding just one earned run over 6.2 innings.
The Bobcats threatened to open the scoring in the top of the fourth but was snuffed out by an impressive double play as Alex Cerda (Miami, FL / Florida Christian Prep) snagged a line drive before firing back to first for the third and final out.
In the bottom part of frame, the Jaspers put together a threat of their own. Junior Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) led off with a single before moving to second on a Fabian Pena (So., Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately, Manhattan would be unable to dent the scoreboard.
After Cosgrove recorded his 200th career strikeout to punctuate another scoreless frame in the top of the fifth, the Jaspers again threatened in the bottom off the fifth.

The Bobcats then broke through with three runs in the top of the sixth, fueled by a Liam Scafariello two-run double down the left field line.
Manhattan would mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh as junior Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) led off with a walk before sophomore Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) delivered a pinch-hit single. Unfortunately, QU closer Mike Davis entered and promptly got the final three outs in notching his eighth save.
Scafariello, Nelson and Palladino all had two hits to lead the way for the visitors.
Luciani struck out three while scattering four hits over 6.0 innings in earning the win.
Game One
Quinnipiac scored in each of the first two frames en route to posting a 4-0 win over Manhattan in game one.
Chris Enns struck out two while yielding six hits over 6.0 innings while Wyatt Hamilton fanned four over 3.0 innings in notching the save for the Bobcats.
Scafariello opened the scoring for Quinnipiac with a two-run single in the first inning.
The Bobcats added to the lead with two more runs in the second inning in extending their advantage to 4-0.
In the top of the top of the third, the visitors appeared poised to add to the lead as Joe Burns ripped a one-out triple while forcing the Jaspers to the bullpen. Freshman RHP Nick Massa (Shrewsbury, NY / Red Bank Regional) promptly struck out the next batter on three pitches before easily retiring the next batter for the final out of the frame.
Manhattan threatened in the bottom of third as junior Ryan Gronlier (Doral, FL / Doral Academy), senior Jose Carrera (Miami, FL / St. Brendan) and junior Brendan Bisset (New City, NY / Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) all singled but unfortunately the Jaspers were unable to dent the scoreboard.
In the top of the fourth, Massa would yielded a one-out hit before settling in and retiring the next 14 batters in a row. The hard-throwing righty would exit with five strikeouts over a career-high 5.2 innings of action while yielding just one hit.
Classmate T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Joseph A. Foran) relieved Massa and would retire all three batters he faced to conclude a solid performance by the Jasper pitchers.
The four runs of offense would prove to be all Quinnipiac would need as Chris Enns and Wyatt Hamilton combined to eight-hit the Manhattan offense.
Carrera, Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) and Gronlier all had two hits to pace the Jaspers.
The teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow with a 2:00 pm match-up.
