LOUDONVILLE, NY – Behind five goals from Kara Hodapp (Oak Ridge, NJ), the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team (5-9, 2-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) picked up its second straight victory, 15-12 over Siena (1-12, 0-5 MAAC) at Siena Turf Field on Saturday. This marks the first time that the Jaspers have posted consecutive wins since beating Niagara and Iona on April 19-23, 2014.
Hodapp scored her first goal on a free position attempt barely two minutes into the contest. After goals by Emily Sandford (Floral Park, NY) and Sarah Lang (Golden's Bridge, NY) put the Jaspers up 3-1, Siena recorded four of the next five tallies to take a 5-4 lead. Hodapp tied it at the 9:22 mark, then Lang and Talia Price (Kinnelon, NJ) both scored to give Manhattan a 7-5 advantage.
The Jaspers led 7-6 at halftime, but Caitlin Murphy (Carmel, NY) found the back of the net just 39 seconds into the second half to bring the margin to 8-6. After Manhattan opened up a 12-9 lead with 13:39 remaining, Siena responded with three straight tallies to even the score at 12-12 with 9:53 remaining.
It would stay 12-12 until the 4:04 mark, when Molly Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, NY) took a pass from Murphy and deposited it in the back of the net, putting the Jaspers back in front. After Darby Nolan (Oak Ridge, NJ) added an insurance tally a minute later, Hodapp's fifth goal of the contest capped the scoring in the 15-12 Manhattan win.
Three different Jaspers had five points in the game. Hodapp tallied five goals, while Fitzpatrick and Lang each recorded two goals and three assists. Fitzpatrick also collected three ground balls. Nolan added three goals and an assist, and Emma Kaishian (Yorktown, NY) controlled four draws. Murphy, meanwhile, finished with a goal, an assist, six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nikki Prestiano (Yorktown Heights, NY) (5-9) made 11 saves in goal.
Michelle Schwarz finished with seven points for the Saints. She scored six times and added an assist. Alexis Deakin had two goals, an assist and three ground balls, while Annie Brennan also tallied two goals. Cara McQuillan picked up a team-best five ground balls, as Siena held a 20-14 advantage in that category. Julia Sardella notched five draw controls, and Briana Sirianni controlled four draws. Sammy Horton (1-12) took the loss after tallying seven saves.
With the win, Manhattan is now tied with Quinnipiac for sixth place in the MAAC. The top six teams in the final standings qualifying for the MAAC Tournament. The Jaspers will look to further improve their playoff chances on Wednesday, when they visit Monmouth (4-10, 2-3 MAAC) at 3 p.m.
