DELAND, FL – The Manhattan College softball team continued the Stetson Westin Invitational with a pair of games, as well as the conclusion of another, on Saturday.  After playing the final inning and a half of a 7-3 loss to host Stetson (18-4), the Jaspers (4-7) dropped a 5-1 decision against North Dakota State (9-13) at Patricia Wilson Field.  Manhattan then knocked off Colgate (1-8) by an 8-3 margin.

Manhattan's game against Stetson on Friday night was suspended due to a power outage in the middle of the sixth inning.  The teams resumed on Saturday morning with the Hatters leading 7-3, and that's how it would finish.

Roughly a half hour later, the Jaspers were back on the field for their regularly-scheduled game against North Dakota State.  Manhattan was the visiting team against the Bison, and immediately got on the board in the top of the first.  Alexa Dawid (Milford, CT) reached on an infield single and stole second.  She then scored on Briana Matazinsky's (Valley Falls, NY) two-out double.

North Dakota State took the lead on Julia Luciano's two-run single in the bottom of the second, then added another tally on Bre Beatty's double in the fourth.  The Bison scored two more runs in the sixth to increase their advantage to 5-1.  North Dakota State pitcher Jacquelyn Sertic, meanwhile, retired 17 straight Jaspers between Matazinsky's double and an infield single (also by Matazinsky) in the seventh.  Sertic got the final two outs, however, and the Bison earned a 5-1 victory.

Matazinsky had two of Manhattan's three hits in the game and recorded the Jaspers' only RBI.  Dawid was credited with the other hit and scored the Manhattan run.  Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT) (0-1) made her first collegiate start in the circle and took the loss.  She surrendered three runs on three hits, struck out one and walked one in 3.2 innings of work.  Danielle Gabriel (Island Heights, NJ) tossed the final 2.1 innings and yielded two runs on three hits with two walks.

Beatty finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bison.  Montana DeCamp was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Luciano drove in a pair of runs and Vanessa Anderson scored three times.  Sertic (7-9) gave up one run on three hits and struck out 12 without issuing a walk in a complete game effort.

In the Jaspers' second (full) game of the day, Colgate jumped in front immediately with a pair of runs in the top of the first.  After Virginia Irby belted a solo homer to left field, Holly Geranen came around on Nicole Rounsavill's RBI single to center.  The Raiders tried to add another run on the play, but Pami White was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

It remained that way until the bottom of the fourth, when the Jaspers broke out for eight runs.  Matazinsky started the rally with a leadoff single and scored on Jenn Vazquez's (Fairfield, CT) base hit to right center.  Victoria Ross (Bloomfield, NJ) then tied the game with an RBI single to left.  With two down, Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ) ripped a double that knocked in both Vazquez and Ross, putting the Jaspers up 4-2.

After Dawid walked, Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ) increased the lead to 5-2 with an RBI single up the middle.  Matazinsky then drew a walk to load the bases, which brought up Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT).  And she cleared the bases with a double to the gap in right center that extended the Jaspers' advantage to 8-2.  Colgate got one back in the top of the seventh before Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA) struck out Geranen looking to finish off the 8-3 victory.

All six of Manhattan's hits in the game came in the eight-run fourth inning.  Pitney finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs, while Puthe was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.  Matazinsky singled in her only official at-bat and scored twice.  She and Dawid both drew three walks.  Kayla McDermott (Garnerville, NY) started in the circle and tossed 3.1 innings.  She allowed two runs on six hits and five walks.  Kristo (1-1) earned the win after giving up one run on two hits, walking two and striking out two in 3.2 innings of relief.

Colgate outhit Manhattan 8-6 in the contest, with Geranen and Rounsavill each recording two hits.  Irby, meanwhile, finished 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.  Brittany Bendel (0-4) took the loss after surrendering six runs (one earned) on four hits while walking four in 3.2 innings.  Gillian Murray went the final 2.1 innings, yielding two runs on two hits.  She issued three walks and struck out one.
