Riverdale, NY - Manhattan women's basketball (4-8, 1-0 MAAC) is back in action at Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday, December 31, playing the team's second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game against the Quinnipiac Bobcats (7-5, 1-0 MAAC) at 2 p.m.
Top Storylines:
- The Jaspers won their first MAAC game of the season 76-64 over New York Metro area rival Saint Peter's on December 28 in Riverdale.
- Senior guard Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY / James Madison) tallied a career-high 28 points against Saint Peter's, including shooting 4-8 from beyond the three-point line.
- Quinnipiac leads the all-time series 9-1. The Jaspers' one victory against the Bobcats came on December 6, 2015, when Manhattan beat Quinnipiac 52-42 on the road to open the 2015-16 MAAC season 2-0. Tatum paced the Jaspers with 18 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter, and she added then career-highs of seven rebounds and five steals.
- Tatum currently leads the MAAC in four categories: assists (53), assists per game (4.4), steals (38), and steals per game (3.2). She ranks among Division I's top 25 players in steals per game and the top 21 in steals overall this season. She also ranks among the top 30 for three-point field goal percentage (.450).
- Senior center Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) now ranks 13th on the Jaspers' all-time scoring list at 1,158 points. She sits just behind Tiffany Schettig (1,178) who played 116 games for Manhattan from 1999-2003.
- Quinnipiac junior guard Aryn McClure was chosen as the 2017-18 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. She is coming off a 13-point, eight-assist, and six-rebound effort in Quinnipiac's win over Siena. The Bobcats were picked to finish first in the MAAC preseason coaches' poll.
- As of December 23, 2017, the MAAC ranks fourth in the nation in strength of schedule as a conference. The league trails only the Big East, the Pac-12, and Southeastern in conference strength of schedule.
The Jaspers have played 115 games without going into overtime, one of the longest active non-overtime streaks in Division I. Manhattan last played an overtime game on January 23, 2014, losing to Niagara 71-67.
