Jaspers Fall in Battle of the Bronx

- Manhattan College senior guard Amani Tatum's 13 fourth-quarter points helped the Jaspers get within three of Fordham in the final period of the 2017 Battle of the Bronx, held Wednesday, November 29 in Draddy Gymnasium. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Rams, who ultimately walked away with the 54-48 victory.
 

Going into the fourth quarter, the Jaspers trailed Fordham by 13 points. A Tatum three, her first of the game and her first points of the night, cut the lead to 10 just 30 seconds into the final period. She would score eight more points over the next four minutes.

With just over two minutes left to play, Tatum hit her last three of the game,completing her team-high 13 and putting the Jaspers within five of the Rams. The basket was followed up by a Mikki Guiton (Schwenksville, PA / Perkiomen Valley) steal and conversion by Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) to cut the lead to three with 1:37 left, but the Jaspers were unable to get another stop on the defensive end as time expired.
 

Manhattan outscored Fordham 23-16 in the fourth quarter, including 14-6 in the paint. The Jaspers shot 35.1 percent from the floor, but just 18.2 percent from three-point range for the game. Fordham was able to record 38.5 percent field goal shooting, as well as 33.3 percent from behind the arc. The Rams went 4-5 from three in the third quarter.

Fordham was led by G'mrice Davis' 19 points and 15 rebounds, in addition to 16 points and 7 rebounds from Bre Cavanaugh. At the conclusion of the game, Davis received the Doc Johnson Award for Most Outstanding Player of the Manhattan-Fordham matchup.
