Riverdale, NY - Marist outlasted a scrappy Manhattan squad in four sets by scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-16 and 32-30 on Senior Day at Draddy Gymnasium.
Prior to the match, the Jaspers recognized seniors Mary Donnelly (Temecula, CA / Chapparal) and Zoe Lindsey (McHenry, IL / McHenry CC) for their service to the program.
Freshman Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) had 11 kills and six block assist to pace Manhattan, which registered a .957 serving percentage and a season-high 11.5 blocks.
In the first set, Marist posted a 25-20 victory despite four kills from Hoener. The Jaspers then rallied to post a decisive 25-19 victory in the second stanza.
With the score tied 5-5, Manhattan notched seven-straight points en route to ripping off a 9-1 run in building an insurmountable 14-6 advantage. The Red Foxes would whittle the lead down to one at 16-15 only to see junior Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) quell the bleeding with a kill. Chaltas would later close out the set with her fourth kill of the stanza.
Marist took the third set by a 25-16 score before the teams locked horns in an epic fourth set.
The final stanza featured 14 ties and six lead changes before the Red Foxes clinched the match with a 33-31 win. Freshman Jade Jeffrey (Tamarac, FL / Cardinal Gibbons) had four kills, including two with the visitors serving for the match, to pace the Jaspers in the final set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Donnelly had four kills, two digs and two block assists and Lindsey 34 assists and seven digs in their final collegiate matches.
- Junior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) had a match-high 22 digs while notching at least 20 for the 11th time this year.
- The freshmen trio of Hoener, Jeffrey and Meagan Miller (Oakville, Ontario / Oakville Trafalgar) combined for 27 kills and 13 block assists.
- Hoener led Manhattan with 11 kills and six block assists.
- Miller recorded a career-high matching three aces.
- Chaltas had a season-high matching nine kills.
- Nikki DeSerpa led all players with 23 kills.
