No. 2 Manhattan To Open MAAC Championship Play Against No. 10 Iona

Lake Buena Vista, FL - No. 2 Manhattan (8-6-3) will begin pursuit of its first MAAC Championship against No. 10 Iona (3-13-3) on Sunday, October 29 at 11:15 am at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.


Top-Two
For the second time in three years, the Jaspers will be the No. 2 seed for the MAAC Championship.

By virtue of its 1-1 tie against Rider on Senior Day, Manhattan went 4-0-1 at home for the second time in three years. In 2017 and 2015, the Jaspers defeated Canisius, Iona, Saint Peter's and Siena while tying Rider.

Modena Lights The Lamp
Senior Erica Modena celebrated Senior Day with her team-leading eighth goal of the year (2nd MAAC) and the 31st of her career. She is in sole possession second place in the all-time Manhattan annals with her 31 scores (74 points), just nine off Emily Rogic's 'school-record mark of 40 set between 1993-1996 ... She is also third in the league with 21 points, recording at least one in eight of her nine MAAC matches this year.

Modena's score was the 23rd of the season for Manhattan, matching the Jaspers' program record against MAAC opposition of 23 set by the 2015 squad ... For her career, she has eight game-winning scores, four multi-goal matches and two hat tricks.

Double Trouble
Sophomore Arianna Montefusco is fifth in the MAAC with seven goals and 17 points.

Lending A Helping Hand
Junior Emma Saul is sixth in the MAAC with six assists while adding three goals.

Triple Threat
Modena, Montefusco and Saul have now combined for 18 of the Jaspers' 29 goals and 14 of their 22 assists.

Defense
Manhattan has yielded one goal or less in 12 of their 17 matches and was the only MAAC squad to not surrender three in a game. 

Second-Half Success
The Jaspers have outscored the opposition by a 14-6 count after halftime this year, including 11-4 during MAAC play.

Local Rivals Take Two
For the first time in program history, Manahttan and Iona will meet in the postseason.

The Jaspers lead the all-time series by a 14-9-4 count with Brendan Lawler holding a 4-3-1 record against the Gaels.

We're Going Streaking
Manhattan has taken three in a row from Iona, outscoring its rivals by a 12-1 count during that time, including posting a 4-0 shutout victory earlier this season.

Modena has notched a point in all four of her career matches against Iona, registering three goals and an assist.

Caroline Taylor's two career goals have come against Iona while freshman Sydney Harwood and classmate Alexa Chapman each recorded their first career scores earlier this year against the Gaels.
