Fairfield, CT – Facing the top team in the MAAC, Manhattan battled Fairfield for three sets in dropping a 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 decision at Alumni Hall.
In the opening set, the Jaspers were led by junior Olyvia Chaltas' (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) three kills and hit .226 while making just two errors, but were done in by a late 10-3 Stag run.
Trailing 11-8 in set number two, Manhattan ripped off a 6-1 run in opening up a 14-12 lead. Later in the set with the score knotted at 21-21, Fairfield scored the final four points in posting the come-from-behind victory.
In the third set, the Jaspers jumped in front at 10-5 and led 14-13 following an Erin Hoener (Fr., St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) kill. Unfortunately, the Stags ended the match with a 12-3 run.
Junior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) had a match-high 14 digs while junior Zoe Lindsey (McHenry, IL / McHenry CC) registered 19 assists in recording double-figures.
Skyler Day notched a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs to pace Fairfield.
The Jaspers will return to action at Quinnipiac on Sunday, October 22 with first serve slated for 1:00 pm.
