Manhattan Drops Opener At Temple

Philadelphia, PA - Temple scored three times in the first half en route to posting a 3-0 victory over Manhattan in the season opener for both teams at the Temple Sports Complex.


Sophomore Tomas Espinal (Miami, FL / Westminster Christian) made three saves in defeat to pace the Jaspers.

Hermann Doerner opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute before Joonas Jokinen found the back of the net in the ninth minute to give the Owls the early 2-0 advantage.

Temple would add to the lead in the 28th minute when Jorge Gomez Sanchez scored on a penalty kick to extend the advantage out to 3-0.

Manhattan threatened at the end of the stanza when freshman Noah Amissah (London, England / Orleans Park) had a couple of good shots.

After halftime, the senior Timmy O'Driscoll (Yorktown Heights, NY / Lakeland) and junior Ajani Phillips (South River, NJ / Saint Peter's Prep) each notched a shot but that would be it for the Jasper attack.

Alex Cagle had two saves in earning the win for the Owls.

Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, August 31 when the Jaspers host NJIT with first kick slated for 7:00 pm.
