RIVERDALE, NY – In its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game of the season, the Manhattan College women's basketball team (3-3, 0-1 MAAC) dropped a 62-47 decision to Marist (2-6, 1-0 MAAC) at Draddy Gymnasium on Tuesday night.  Maeve Parahus (Congers, NY) led the Jaspers with 18 points after sinking a career-high six treys.

The Jaspers scored the first five points of the game on a Kayla Grimme (Altoona, PA) layup and a Parahus trey, but Marist countered with an 8-2 run to go up 8-7.  After an Amani Tatum (Cambria Heights, NY) jumper and another Parahus three gave Manhattan a 12-8 advantage midway through the first quarter.  However, the Red Foxes ended the period on a 9-3 rally and took a 17-15 lead into the second stanza.

After Marist extended its cushion to 11 points, 26-15, at the 5:31 mark of the second, another Parahus trey brought the Jaspers within eight a 26-18.  The teams then traded three-pointers before the Red Foxes closed the half on a 7-3 spurt to open up a 36-24 advantage at the break.

Marist led 54-37 after three quarters, then pushed the margin to a game-high 19 points at 56-37 early in the fourth.  The Jaspers scored the next five points to trim their deficit to 14 at 56-42 with 6:11 to go, but that's as close as it would get, and the Red Foxes picked up a 62-47 victory to begin MAAC play.

Grimme registered nine points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Williams (Windsor, CT) tallied six points off the bench.  Tatum handed out five assists to go along with four boards.  As a team, the Jaspers shot 32.7 percent (18-of-55) from the field, 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from long range, and 66.7 percent (2-of-3) at the charity stripe.

Rebekah Hand had 25 points and seven rebounds for Marist.  Maura Fitzpatrick added 13 points and seven boards, while Hannah Hand finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.  Lovisa Henningsdottir pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, as the Red Foxes held a 45-28 advantage on the glass.  Marist shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the floor, 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from downtown, and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the free throw line.

Manhattan will play its next four games on the road, starting with a matchup at defending MAAC champion Iona (2-3, 0-0 MAAC) at 7 p.m. on Friday.  The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
