Turner's Career-High 28 Not Enough In Loss At Temple

Philadelphia, PA - Temple broke open a close game with a late first-half run en route to posting an 88-67 win over Manhattan in NIT Season Tip-Off action at the Liacouras Center.

Junior Zavier Turner (Indianapolis, IN / Ball State) scored a career-high 28 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, while classmate Zane Waterman (Winston-Salem, NC / Fayetteville Academy) had 17 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, with eight rebounds.

The Jaspers outrebounded the Owls by a 37-29 count, winning the battle of the boards for the fourth-straight game to open the season. Manhattan also posted an 18-8 advantage on the offensive end, leading to a 24-0 advantage on second-chance points.

In the opening stanza, the teams played to a 15-15 deadlock over the first 11-plus minutes of the half before Temple ended the period with a 24-5 run in taking a 39-20 lead into the break.

After the break, the Jaspers picked up the pace offensively in shooting 50.0 percent (17-of-34) from the floor, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from long range, with Turner leading the way with 25 second-half points.

Walker Jr. finished up with 12 points in notching double-figures for the third-straight game while junior Ahmed Ismail (Cairo, Egypt / Colby CC) had eight points and six rebounds.      

Daniel Dingle had 22 points while Shizz Alston Jr. chipped in with 17 points and five assists to pace the Owls (2-2).
