Riverdale, NY - Junior Zavier Turner (Indianapolis, IN / Ball State) scored 16 points to pace five double-figure scorers for Manhattan in a 94-81 loss to Winthrop at Draddy Gymnasium. The game was played as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon as well as the NIT Season Tip-Off event.

The Jaspers fall to 0-2 while the Eagles improve to 2-0.
Manhattan controlled the paint for the second-straight game by a 39-36 count, including 17-14 on the offensive end, and posted a 30-18 advantage in on points in the paint.
Playing before a raucious crowd, the Jaspers converted on six of their first eight shots and were deadlocked at 22-22 with 10:52 to play in the first half following a Zavier Peart (Jr., Miami, FL / Eastern Florida State) free throw..
Unfortunately, the Eagles would rip off six-straight points en route to opening up a 32-24 lead with 7:43 until halftime. Manhattan would trim the deficit to three at the 2:29 mark following another Peart free throw only to see the visitors score eight-straight points in opening up a a 53-44 lead at the break.
The opening stanza was plagued by foul trouble on each side as both squads were whistled for 17 fouls with Winthrop going 14-for-16 from the line and the Jaspers 17-for-23.
After halftime, the Eagles scored the first eight points to cap a game-changing 16-2 run that bridged the end of the first and the beginning of the second half as the visitors extended their advantage to 62-44 with 14:58 remaining.
Manhattan would trim the deficit to 11 on four occasions the rest of the way but was unable to get any closers.
Turner pulled down five rebounds with two steals to go along with his afroementioned 16 points while sophomore Thomas Capuano (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY / Iona Prep) added 12 points and a career-high six rebounds. Senior Tyler Wilson (Bronx, NY / Cardinal Hayes), junior Calvin Crawford(Middletown, NY / St. Thomas More (CT)) and freshman Aaron Walker Jr. (Brooklyn, NY / Cardozo) each added 10 points to give the Jaspers five double-figure scorers.
Joshua Davenport and Keon Johnson each scored 22 points to lead Winthrop.
The Jaspers debuted memorial patches in honor of Fr. George Hill, the Manhattan College chaplain who passed away in September, on the left shoulder of their jerseys
