NEWARK, N.J. - The Manhattan men's soccer team played NJIT to a 2-2 draw at Lubetkin Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the result, the Jaspers complete their non-conference slate with an 0-4-1 mark. NJIT moves to 2-3-1.

Two goals by the Highlanders in the final 20 minutes of regulation knotted the score at two and forced extra time.

The Jaspers opened scoring in the 36th minute courtesy of a strike by senior Abraham Bartoah (New Haven, Conn. / Monroe). Bartoah, who has been deployed as both a fullback and target man this season, made a run along the right side and deftly slotted the ball past junior goalkeeper Christian Foust. The goal put the Jaspers on top, 1-0, marking the first lead Manhattan has held through non-conference play.

In the 62nd minute, freshman Adam Weisberger (Englishtown, N.J. / Manalapan) doubled Manhattan's advantage when he buried a free kick from 25 yards out. Weisberger's goal was the first of his collegiate career.

In the 72nd minute, NJIT was awarded a free kick. Freshman Ryan Moore swung the ball into the box, and after a scramble, senior back Jimmy Myers was able to find the ball and finish to make the score 2-1.

Just over three minutes later, the Highlanders tied the score when senior Joshua Mercer's header found goal. Junior Rickardo Oldham provided the service with a nice cross from the right side.

Neither team managed to score in the 20 minutes of extra time, as the match ended in a draw.

Jaspers' freshman goalkeeper R.J. Noll (Yelm, Wash. / Yelm) made eight saves in the outing.

Six players were cautioned (four Jaspers and two Highlanders) in the match.

Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the squad travels to Siena to begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
