WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - Quinnipiac swept Manhattan in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Dutchess Stadium. The Bobcats claimed game one by an 11-9 count before winning game two by a 6-0 score.

With the losses the Jaspers fall to 8-21 and 4-7 in the MAAC while the Bobcats improve to 13-16 and 8-3 in the league.

Game 1
Quinnipiac scored seven runs over the first two innings before holding off a late Manhattan rally in posting an 11-9 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Dutchess Stadium.

Both teams had big offensive games with the Bobcats rapping out 17 hits and the Jaspers a season-best matching 13.

In the top of the first, Quinnipiac scored five runs on six hits, including three doubles, while batting around. Manhattan would threaten in the bottom of the first as senior Chris Kalousdian (Fort Salonga, N.Y. / Kings Park) led off with a single before moving to second on senior Joe McClennan's (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall Central) one-out bloop single to left field. Senior Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) followed with a four-pitch walk to load the bases with just one out. Unfortunately, QU starter Thomas Jankins struck out the next batter before Scott Donaghue made a diving snare on Vin Teixeira's (Hamden, Conn. / Hamden Hall Country Day) liner before throwing to first for the final out while quelling the Jasper threat.

The Bobcats would add to the lead in the top of the second with two more runs on three hits and a well-placed ground out in jumping in front 7-0.

Quinnipiac would add a run in the fourth on Louis Ianotti's RBI triple and one more in the top of the fifth on Dan Gibson's towering home run to left center in extending the lead out to 9-0.

Manhattan finally broke through in the bottom part of the frame with a pair of runs. Freshman Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) led off with a walk before scoring on a Kalousidan triple to left field. One out later, Joe McClennan brought around Kalousdian with his third hit of the game, a RBI single up the middle.

The Bobcats would get those runs back on Vincent Guglietti's two-run single in the top of the eighth to make it 11-2 and appeared to be in complete control.

However, the Jaspers would have other ideas and batted around in the bottom part of the frame while plating five runs in trimming the deficit to 11-7.

After holding QU in the top of the ninth, Teixeira led off with a double before senior Mikey Miranda (Miami, Fla. / Florida Christian) was plunked. Sophomore Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, N.Y. / Haldane) then notched his second-straight double, a shot down the left field line, to score Teixeira and make it an 11-8 game. Unfortunately, on the play pinch-runner Adam Genners (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) was thrown out after making a wide turn around third. Following a strikeout, Kalousdian plated Forlow with a RBI double of his own while bringing the tying run to the plate. However, that would be as close as Manhattan would get as Matthew Lorenzetti got the final out of the game to close out the 11-9 victory.

Forlow rapped a out a career-high four hits, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs to pace the Jaspers. McClennan went 3-for-4 while Kalousdian finished up 3-for-6 with two RBI while falling a home run short of the cycle to round out the top offensive performers for Manhattan.

Quinnipiac's first five hitters went 12-for-24 with nine runs, eight RBI and four walks.

Jankins (4-3) earned the win, striking out four while yielding two runs on eight hits over 7.0 innings. Senior RHP Scott McClennan (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall Central) fell to 2-5 in defeat, yielding seven runs on nine hits over 2.0 innings.

Game 2
The Bobcats limited the Jaspers to just five hits in completing the doubleheader sweep with a 6-0 win.

Quinnipiac again jumped in front in the opening frame as Guglietti plated Michael Palladino with a wind-aided double for the first run of the game.

After Manhattan went in order in the bottom of the first, Kalousdian led off the second with a double but was unable to advance further as RHP Wyatt Hamilton got the next three outs with ease. The Jaspers again threatened to tie the game in the third as Santisteban laced a two-out triple only to be stranded.

The Bobcats added to the lead with a pair of fourth-inning runs. Guglietti led off with a single before moving to third on a John Iannotti single. John Bodenhamer followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Guglietti while pushing Iannotti to second. Iannotti then stole third and would come around to score Anthony Cruz's successful safety squeeze, extending the lead to 3-0.

QU then for all intents and purposes put the game away with three runs in the top of the sixth as Julius Saparito delivered the big blow with a two-run triple while providing the final 6-0 margin.

Kalousdian notched his team-leading ninth multi-hit game, finishing up 2-for-3 with a triple to highlight the Jaspers' effort.

Sophomore RHP Joey Rocchietti (Green Brook, N.J. / Watchung Hills) fell to 1-5 in defeat, yielding six runs, five earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings.

Guglietti was 3-for-4 while finishing a home run short of the cycle while Iannotti was 2-for-3  with two runs to pace Quinnipiac.

RHP Taylor Luciani (1-2) earned the win, striking out one over 4.0 innings of three-hit ball.

The teams will conclude their series tomorrow at 12 p.m. with a single game.
