Manhattan Drops 76-64 Decision At Eastern Kentucky

Jarelle Reischel notched 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in leading Eastern Kentucky to a 76-64 win over Manhattan in the final non-conference game of the year for both teams at Paul S. McBrayer Arena.


Sophomore Zane Waterman (Winston-Salem, NC / Fayetteville Academy) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the way for the Jaspers which fell to 3-8.

The Colonels scored the first 18 points of the game en route to improving to 9-6 on the year, including a perfect 8-0 at home.

Manhattan was a different team after intermission, shooting a scorching 57.7 percent (15-of-26), including 63.3 percent (7-of-11) from distance. Leading the attack was Waterman, who scored 21 of his 23 points after halftime on 8-of-11 shooting. The North Carolina native also added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.

Senior Shane Richards (New York, NY / York Prep) scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half while pulling down six rebounds while senior RaShawn Stores (Bronx, NY / Robinson School (NJ)) had 11 points with three assists to round out the double-digit performers for the Jaspers.

Junior Rich Williams (Brooklyn, NY / Vermont Academy (VT)) narrowly missed another double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds off the bench. Classmate Tyler Wilson (Bronx, NY / Cardinal Hayes) again paced the squad with five assists while sophomore Calvin Crawford (Middletown, NY / St. Thomas More (CT)) added eight points to round out the top performers.

For the game, Manhattan shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field, including 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from deep, while handing out 17 assists.

The Jaspers will next host Fairfield on Saturday, January 2 at 7:00 pm.

* The Jaspers scored a season-high 43 second-half points while establishing season-highs in field goal percentage (.577) and three-point field goal percentage (.636) after halftime.

* Waterman's 23-point performance is the 10th Manhattan 20-point performance of the year while marking the ninth game of the year that a Jasper has hit the 20-point plateau.

* His performance supercedes his previous high of 22 set earlier this month against Columbia while Waterman's eight field goals are a career-high.

* Richards hit for double-figures for a team-leading 10th time this season and is averaging 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

* Manhattan, which drained a season-high 10 triples for the second-straight game, is shooting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) over the last three games.

* Wilson has now led the Jaspers in assists in all 11 games this season and is averaging a MAAC-leading 6.2 per game.

* Masiello's former UK teammate and 1998 National Champion Cameron Mills spoke to Christian Heimall and the Jasper Sports Network at halftime.
