Manhattan Upends Saint Peter's in MAAC Dual Meet

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Manhattan men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet on Saturday afternoon.

The men's side earned a 114-78 victory, while the women won by a 118-43 final.

Men

Junior Dylan Cooney (Port Jervis, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) etched his name into the record book for the second time in as many weeks, earning a 352.72 in the 1-meter dive (11 dives). His score broke the mark set by Peter Zipf in 1979.

Sophomore Neil Perry (Elkridge, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) swam to top finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle races, with times of 22.13 and 49.38, respectively.

Lance Neuendorf (Blauvelt, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) also continued his impressive start to his senior campaign by clocking a 54.34 in the 100 backstroke.

Women

Junior Sara Buckley (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) took first place in both the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 26.72 and 58.24, respectively.

Sophomore Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) swam to a top time in the 200 individual medley, at 2:18.00.

In the 100 butterfly, freshman Kathryn Voitik (Moscow, Pa. / Scranton) raced to a first place finish with a 1:03.10. Voitik also took first in the 500 freestyle event later in the meet, when she touched in at 5:21.94, setting a school record. Voitik's time broke the mark previously set by Bridget Latino in 2012.

 

The women's side will return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 23, when it travels to LIU Brooklyn for a 6 p.m. dual meet. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action on Friday, Nov. 6, when the squads host VMI, marking their first home meets of the season. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
