HONOLULU, HAWAI'I - The Manhattan men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a split in a dual meet with Colorado college on Friday afternoon at the 'Iolani School.
The men's side earned an impressive 146-51 win over the Tigers to improve to 5-4 on the season. The women's team fell by a score of 150-71 and moved to 3-7 on the year.
Seniors Ryan Klages and Mike Mackay and junior Lance Neuendorf were named Manhattan Men's Performers of the Meet by the coaching staff.
On the women's side, sophomores Madison Brown and Sara Buckley and freshman Alexandra Hutzler were tabbed Manhattan Performers of the Meet.
Men
Neuendorf earned a sweep in the backstroke races, compiling two first place finishes. In the 50 back, the junior swam to a time of 26.89, defeating his closest opponent by 3.20 seconds. In the 100 back, Neuendorf posted a 1:01.64 to earn first place by over seven seconds.
Mackay achieved similar success in the breaststroke events, collecting first place results in the 50- and 100-yard races. The senior swam to a 29.81 in the 50- and clocked a 1:00.13 in the 100.
Klages, one of the team's top sprinters, also compiled two first place finishes. The senior posted times of 24.13 and 52.01 in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, respectively.
The medley relay team, comprised of Neuendorf, Mackay, junior Dallan Treanor and freshman Neil Perry posted a time of 1:44.80 to earn a victory by 4.79 seconds.
As a team, the Jaspers also enjoyed strong results in butterfly events, with Perry earning first place in the 50 fly with a 24.50. Sophomore Richard Llewellyn clocked a 56.02 in the 100 fly to narrowly touch out his teammate Perry by .13 for first place.
Treanor also enjoyed success on an individual level in Hawai'i, posting a first place time of 58.50 in the 100 individual medley.
Women
The women's side earned three first place finishes in the meet. Brown posted a 30.50 in the 50 back to take first by 1.28 seconds.
In the 50 free, Buckley had an impressive showing, clocking a 27.19 to defeat her nearest competitor by .09 seconds.
Hutzler continued her impressive run of form with a top finish in the 100 individual medley. The freshman swam to a 1:05.97 in the event, cruising in almost two seconds ahead of her closest opponent.
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action on Monday, January 19th, for Senior night. The Jaspers will host Baruch for a dual meet at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. The event is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
