Box Score NEWARK, N.J. - Aislinn McIlvenny scored her fifth goal in six contests and the Jaspers finished off their second straight shutout in a 1-0 victory at NJIT on Sunday afternoon.
NJIT had a chance midway through the first half to end the Jaspers' shutout streak. At the 21:40 mark, the Highlanders' Rebecca Tustin's shot struck the post and was knocked out of danger. Neither side was able to dent the scoreboard in the first half as the teams entered intermission at 0-0.
Similar to their previous win vs. Lafayette, the Jaspers gained the game winner early in the second half. And again, it was Aislinn McIlvenny who provided the tally. Ten minutes into the second half, Emily Ude found McIlvenny in front of the goal. McIlvenny then fired from six yards out, past the keeper to put the Jaspers ahead, 1-0.
Manhattan had a chance to pad its lead five minutes later. Ude shot one on goal, but a defender cleared it aside. Kaelyn Angelo's second attempt was saved by NJIT keeper Karen David and a minute later, Ude had another attempt stopped at the goal line by a defender.
Manhattan goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny made one save in the team's second straight shutout and third in the first six games of the season.
The Jaspers are now 4-2 on the season and return to action on Friday, September 12 against Sacred Heart at the Yale Invitational. Game time is 5 p.m.
