RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College senior Aislinn McIlvenny scored her fourth goal in five games to help lift the Jaspers to a 1-0 victory over Lafayette at Gaelic Park on Friday evening.
Twenty minutes into the match, Manhattan came up with the best chance of the contest. After Carly Perry took a corner kick, Lauren Barton placed a header on goal but Danielle Sedillo made a nice stop. McIlvenny was there for the rebound. Her first shot was blocked, but her second was cleared off the goal line by Samantha Potoczak to keep the game scoreless.
McIlvenny got the Jaspers on the board three minutes into the second half. Emily Center chipped a through ball to McIlvenny, who deftly lofted one over Sedillo's reach and into the back of the net to give the Jaspers a 1-0 advantage.
Lafayette put some pressure on the Jaspers after the goal but the Manhattan back line stayed strong Manhattan goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny was in the right place all match to make four saves and earn her second shutout victory.
"We haven't given up a goal in regulation since the third minute at Binghamton," head coach Brendan Lawler said after the match. "Hopefully this will help us to keep building confidence going forward."
Off to their best start since the 2008 team was 3-1, the Jaspers are now 3-2 on the season. They will return to action on Sunday, September 7 at NJIT at 1 p.m.
