NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Manhattan women's soccer team fell to the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 4-0, in the opening match of the Yale Invitational on Friday evening. With the loss, the Jaspers move to 4-3 on the season.

After neither side managed to score over the first 45 minutes of play, the Pioneers opened the second half with an abundance of offense.

Junior Elisa Robiglio broke the goalless draw by scoring just three minutes into the second half. Robiglio intercepted the Jaspers' clearing attempt and struck from 25 yards out. In the 64th minute, junior Dana Cosmedy made it 2-0 Sacred Heart by scoring from the edge of the 18-yard box. Juniors Alexis Parlato and Jacquelyn Roth added to the Sacred Heart lead with goals in the 70th and 79th minutes, respectively.

Manhattan's best opportunity came in the 35th minute, when junior Taylor Salkowsky swung a ball into the box off a corner. Freshman center back Emily Center headed the ball on goal, but saw her effort stopped by Pioneers' goalkeeper Talia Schwartz. The Jaspers were unable to build up sustained offensive pressure for much of the match.

Manhattan returns to action on Sunday, when they take on the host Yale Bulldogs in their final game of the invitational. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
