With 1:10 left in the first overtime period, Samantha Leyh placed a free kick straight into the box. Ari Stanton ran onto it and flicked it into the lower corner of the goal for the game-winner, giving the Rams the victory.
Manhattan had the best early chance in the first half. Carly Perry took a corner kick in the 13th minute, placing a beautiful ball in the box. Emily Ude got a head on it but flicked the ball just wide. Rhode Island's best chance in the first half came after a dangerous cross that veered toward the top of the goal. Manhattan goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny was able to deflect the cross before it crossed the goal line.
The Jaspers controlled much of the second half, outshooting the Rams 5-3 although no shots were on goal. Five minutes into the half, Aislinn McIlvenny found herself in space from 15 yards out but her crackling shot went just over the crossbar. In the 63rd minute, Lizzy Carlson all found herself alone, but fired her shot high over the URI keeper.
In overtime, the Rams forced Skonieczny to make a pair of saves early on before earning a foul along the left flank from 30 yards away. Leyh placed the free kick directly into the center of the box, where Stanton, closely marked, was able to find the back of the net to win it for Rhode Island.
