RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac's Hannah Lindsley finished off a no-hitter, as the Bobcats (8-22, 4-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) completed a 2-0 victory over the Manhattan College softball team (9-19, 1-3 MAAC) in the conclusion of a suspended game at Gaelic Park on Monday afternoon. The contest was halted due to rain in the top of the fourth inning on March 29.
The Bobcats were leading 1-0 with the bases loaded and one out when the game was suspended, and it was picked up from that point. Amy Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) struck out Molly Jarrett, the first batter to come to the plate on Monday, before walking Abby Johnson to force in a run. Bright got out of further trouble when she struck out Courtney Solt looking to end the inning.
However, the two-run margin was all the offense Lindsley would need. She retired all 12 Jaspers that came to the plate on Monday and faced just two batters over the minimum. Elena Bowman (San Mateo, Calif.) was hit by a pitch in the first and Anna Crowley (Eastchester, N.Y.) drew a one-out walk in the second. She traded places with Stephanie Reinhardt (Albany, N.Y.) before Lindsley sent down the final 16 hitters she faced in order. She completed her no-no on a fly ball to left by Andi Stallard (Katy, Texas).
Bright (3-10) pitched well, but suffered a hard-luck loss. She gave up just five hits and the two runs while notching a career-high 10 strikeouts. It was the first 10-strikeout game for a Manhattan pitcher since Kelsi Redding fanned 14 Green Bay hitters on March 21, 2013. Bright also walked eight.
Jordan Paolucci was responsible for Quinnipiac's first run with a solo homer in the second inning before the game was suspended. She reached base all four times she came to the plate, also walking twice and being hit by a pitch. Overall, the Bobcats were limited to just five hits, with Sydney Robey and Dani Edmands roping doubles. Lindsley (5-5) recorded two strikeouts, walked one and hit one.
The Jaspers continue their seven-game homestand on Wednesday, when Wagner (13-17) comes to Riverdale for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
