NEW YORK – Shelby Unger scored on Nicole Borchard's single in the bottom of the seventh to give Columbia (2-8) a 3-2 victory over the Manhattan College softball team (3-10) on Tuesday afternoon at the Columbia Softball Stadium.

With the contest knotted at 2-2, Emily Snodgrass started the inning with a single down the left field line.  Unger followed with a single back to the circle, then Snodgrass was retired at third on Alyssa Rodia's grounder to short.  However, the Lions loaded the bases when Liz Caggiano was hit by a pitch, and Borchard followed with a base hit to center that gave Columbia the walk-off win.

Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Anna Crowley (Eastchester, N.Y.) belted her first collegiate home run, but Columbia countered with a pair of unearned tallies in the bottom half of the inning.  Kayla Shimoda scored on a Snodgrass single, and a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Rodia knocked in the Lions' second run.

After Mackensy Lakian was thrown out at the plate to end the fourth, the Jaspers evened the game in the top of the fifth.  Emily Cutler (Bloomingdale, N.J.) reached on an error leading off the inning and scored on a Kate Bowen (Newtown, Conn.) single.  Bowen then stole second and Elena Bowman (San Mateo, Calif.) was intentionally walked, putting runners on first and second with nobody out, but Columbia reliever Tessa Kroll got out of the jam with a popup and a pair of groundouts.

The Jaspers were held to just four hits in the game.  In addition to Crowley's homer and Bowen's RBI single, Stephanie Reinhardt (Albany, N.Y.) smacked a double and Amanda Paxson (Cedar Grove, N.J.) registered a single.  Danielle Gabriel (Island Heights, N.J.) (1-2) took the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) on nine hits while striking out four and walking three in 6.1 innings.

Snodgrass and Borchard combined for six of Columbia's nine hits.  They both went 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Emily Kenyon started in the circle and went four-plus innings.  She allowed two runs (one earned) on just one hit, struck out two and walked four.  Kroll (1-0) earned the win after yielding just three hits and a walk in three shutout innings.

The Jaspers return to action with a visit to St. John's (10-13) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday.  The twinbill was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but the date was changed due to the forecast of inclement weather.
