LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Manhattan battled back to force a 1-1 draw at Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Siena Field.
With the draw, the Jaspers move to 6-5-2 and 1-2-2 in the MAAC while the Saints are now 5-5-5 and 2-1-3 in the league. The match was the second-straight overtime contest for Manhattan and the fourth in sixth games.
Siena struck first as Cassy Landis opened the scoring in the second minute with a shot from the near post that curled into the goal.
The Saints would continue to attack, peppering the Jaspers with 10 shots over the opening stanza but were unable to futher dent the scoreboard.
After halftime, Manhattan became the aggressor and outshot the hosts by a 9-4 count but was unable to convert over the first 36-plus minutes before finally breaking through in the 82nd minute. Junior Emily Ude (Babylon, N.Y. / North Babylon) knocked the ball pass Taylor Booth off a pass from senior Aislinn McIlvenny (Pleasant Valley, N.Y. / Arlington) on a two-on-one opportunity from the right side.
The goal was the first of the year for Ude while McIlvenny's second assist in as many matches was her team-best matching third. McIlvenny has also now either scored or assisted on 11 of the Jaspers' 14 goals.
Far from finished, Manhattan had a chance to take the lead in the 85th minute when freshman Emily Center's (Altamont, N.Y. / Guilderland) header attempt was saved then cleared off the line.
The Jaspers had another solid chance to win the game but sophomore Lauren Barton's (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill) in the 102nd minute hit the post.
Siena then failed to convert the final major scoring opportunity of the match when Allison Clark's shot in the 108th minute was saved by freshman Becca Vitale (Branford, Conn. / Branford).
The Saints owned a 20-15 advantage in shots, including posting a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Manhattan will next host Fairfield on Wednesday, October 15 with opening kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
