NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Niagara's Breanna Catipovic scored her sixth goal of the season with 3:22 left in regulation to unlock a 1-1 tie and give the Purple Eagles a 2-1 victory over visiting Manhattan on Saturday afternoon.

The first 45 minutes elapsed without any score as Niagara had four shots on goal to Manhattan's three. In the second half, the pace quickened and good chances led to goals.

Ten minutes into the second half, Niagara's Jami Peterson scored her first goal of the season after receiving a feed from Catherine Meyer. That goal gave Niagara a 1-0 advantage.

The Jaspers applied pressure after that goal and eventually broke through with 21 minutes left. Aislinn McIlvenny weaved through the Niagara back line and fired a hard shot that tucked right under the crossbar for her third goal of the season, which tied the match at 1-1.

With less than six minutes to play and the match still even at a goal apiece, Manhattan's Emily Ude had a golden chance to put the Jaspers in front but her shot ricocheted off the post and Kaelyn Angelo's rebound sailed high.

Niagara went on the counterattack and had a pair of consecutive shots denied by Manhattan goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny, who suffered an injury during the sequence and had to leave the game. A minute after the Jaspers switched goalkeepers, Catipovic tallied the game winner, tapping home a loose ball near the goal line that ultimately gave Niagara the 2-1 win.

Skonieczny made 10 saves in goal for the Jaspers, while Clare Feiertag had five stops for Niagara.

The Jaspers are back in action on Wednesday, October 2 at Monmouth for a 7 p.m. match.

NOTES:

The Purple Eagles had seven corner kicks to four for Manhattan ... six of Manhattan's seven losses this season have come by one goal ... Catherine Meyer was credited with an assist on each of Niagara's goals.
