POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Manhattan began the start of MAAC conference play on the road at Marist, one of the top teams in the conference during the last two seasons. For 90 minutes, the Jaspers gave the Red Foxes everything they had, but Danielle Glazer's goal in the 34th minute held up the rest of the way to give Marist a 1-0 victory.
Four minutes into the match, Manhattan's Sam Washuk took a corner kick as the Jaspers looked to score first. That attempt was cleared away by the Red Foxes, which had the match's first two shots on goal, both of which were denied by Manhattan goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny.
Marist's third shot would find the back of the net, when Amanda Epstein found Glazer for the first and only goal of the contest with 11:29 left in the first half.
Trailing 1-0 at intermission, Manhattan was able to advance into Marist territory on a variety of connecting passes throughout the second half with no end result. The most dangerous opportunity came in the 83rd minute when Emily Ude made a run down the left side and fired a shot on net that was stopped by Marist goalkeeper Andrea Wicks to ultimately preserve the victory.
Manhattan returns to conference play at Gaelic Park on Wednesday, September 25. The Jaspers will host Iona at 7 p.m.
