EASTON, Pa. - Following a 2-1 overtime victory over Fordham in its season opener, Manhattan ended up on the other side of a 2-1 result, dropping its first match of the season to Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.
Playing in its season opener, Lafayette gained a 1-0 advantage at the 22:30 mark of the first half on a goal by Kaelin King, who put home a one-timer after a feed by Alyssa Finelli.
The Leopards had controlled the ball for much of the first half, but Manhattan's Janie Schlauder was able to capitalize on a misplay at the 30-minute mark to tie the game. After a turnover in the Lafayette end, Schlauder won a 50-50 ball with Lafayette's keeper Kelly Sposato and fired one home into an empty net for the equalizer.
The score remained 1-1 going into the second half as the pace quickened. Manhattan's Lizzy Carlson, who scored the first Jasper goal on Friday, had her shot stopped in the 66th minute. On a counterattack, Manhattan keeper Kristen Skonieczny denied Elizabeth Scoda from point-blank range but Finelli was able to find the back of the net a minute later to give Lafayette a 2-1 lead.
Skonieczny made five saves in her second start of the season. After entering late in the first half, Danielle Sedillo stopped two shots to earn the win for Lafayette.
The Jaspers are back in action against Binghamton at Gaelic Park on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m.

The Jaspers defeated Lafayette 2-1 last season at Gaelic Park ... the teams have split the last four meetings in the series ... Manhattan had the same starting lineup for the second consecutive game ... the game was played under sunny skies and 78 degrees.
