Manhattan (6-15, 4-7 MAAC)
Manhattan will play five of its final seven Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games at home beginning with its contest against Saint Peter's on Sunday. The Jaspers are 3-3 at Draddy Gymnasium this season, which includes a pair of double-digit league victories over Siena (Dec. 9) and Marist (Jan. 13).
Junior forward Rhamel Brown has anchored the Manhattan's offensive production at home starting five the six contests. The 6'7" forward from Brooklyn averaged a team-high 15.2 points shooting 63.8% from the field in Riverdale. Brown delivered his 11th double-digit scoring effort in the last 14 games on Friday at Siena.
Brown leads the MAAC and ranks in the top-20 nationally averaging 2.7 blocks per game. He also ranks at the top of the league in field goal percentage (54.8%), and he is fourth with a 6.8 rebounding average.
Michael Alvarado delivered one of his top all-around performances of the season against the Saints on Friday night. Alvarado picked Manhattan up by scoring 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second half as the Jaspers almost rallied back from double-digits to earn the victory. Alvarado handed out five assists, shot 8-for-9 at the free-throw line and grabbed four rebounds. The junior point guard from the Bronx is the Jaspers second leading active scorer (8.7 ppg) and he ranks sixth in the MAAC shooting 80.5% at the free-throw line.
Freshman forward Shane Richards had his eighth double-digit scoring effort of the year at Siena as he popped three 3-pointers. Richards is second in the league averaging 3.2 threes per game against MAAC opponents.
Manhattan is second in the MAAC in holding conference opponents to 60.8 points per game. The Jaspers have kept 10 of their 11 league opponents below 70 points.
Saint Peter's (7-14, 2-9 MAAC)
The Peacocks snapped an eight game losing streak on Thursday with a 70-68 victory over Marist at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City. Junior guard Chris Burke came up with a steal and fast break layup in the final six seconds of overtime to upend the Red Foxes.
Saint Peter's is led by red-shirt sophomore guard Desi Washington who is averaging 14.3 points per game. The transfer from Delaware State has buried 54 three-pointers, which are the third most in the MAAC.
Senior guard Yvon Raymond is also averaging double-figures in the scoring column (10.5 ppg). The 6'3" guard leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.
Saint Peter's ranks last in the MAAC in free-throw shooting (59.2%) and rebounding (32.0). The Peacocks have allowed 65.9 points per game this season, which is fifth in the MAAC.
