RIVERDALE, N.Y. - On a day where eight seniors were recognized for their contributions to the program, the Manhattan swim team welcome St. Francis Brooklyn and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to Riverdale Country Day School on Saturday. The Jasper men were victrious over both the Terriers, 142-61, and the Highlanders, 127-76, while the women fell 114-91 to St. Francis Brooklyn.
With the wins, the Jasper men improved to 5-1. It began strong for Manhattan when the quartet of Lance Neuendorf, Mike Mackay, Christopher Reyes and Ryan Klages won the 200 medley relay by more than two seconds in the first event of the meet. The Jaspers picked up another first place finish, thanks to Neuendorf, in the 200 free while Mackay touched the wall first in the 200 Individual Medley.
After Reyes and Rich Llewellyn finished second and third in the 100 butterfly to expand the Manhattan lead, Dallan Treanor won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.07 seconds. The Jaspers then scored a 1-2 finish from Mackay and Dennis Daly in the 100 breaststroke before winning the 200 free relay with the team of Scott Isaacs, Reyes, Llewellyn and Treanor.
The Jasper women (1-4) got a solid start in their meet againt the Terriers, placing second and third in the 200 medley relay. Michaela Schatz, Vanessa L'Heureux, Kerry Schuermann and Patricia Colton finished second while the "B" team of Emily Kearns, Emily Orchowski, Melanie Tam and Abagail Dempsey placed third. Kiersten Buelow also earned a second place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 11:48.94 seconds.
Manhattan would get their first win of the meet in the 50 free as Colton narrowly edged St. Francis Brooklyn's Jessica Reynoso by just 0.16 seconds. Her time of 25.82 seconds was a personal best for the freshman. That would be one of only two event wins for the Jaspers with the other coming in the final event. Whitney Perez, Kim Geissler, Paige Raccioppi and Sara Buckley finished first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.74 seconds.
Women's seniors Tam, L'Heureux and MaryLynn McMahon were honored prior to the meet as were men's seniors Daly, Johnny Chan, PJ Sweeney, Chris Fusco and Nick Delpino. Both Daly and L'Heureux were named the Jaspers performers of the meet by the Manhattan coaching staff.
The two teams are back in action on Wed., Dec. 4 when they visit cross-Bronx rival Fordham at 7 p.m.
