Manhattan (3-9, 1-1 MAAC)
The Jaspers are in the midst of nine straight games in the metropolitan area. The local stretch began on Dec. 9 when Manhattan rolled to a 75-55 victory over Siena at Draddy Gymnasium.
Manhattan resumes Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a 1-1 league record. The Jaspers dropped their first MAAC game on Dec. 7 as they were edged by four points (62-58) at Marist in the team's first of six straight contests without injured All-MAAC guard George Beamon (16.8 ppg).
Coming off their first home loss of the season, the Jaspers look to rebound from a 50-44 setback against Stony Brook on New Year's Day. Junior forward Rhamel Brown recorded his third straight double-digit scoring performance against the Seawolves finishing with 15 points. It was the second consecutive game he had a game-high scoring effort, and his fourth contest in double-figures in the Jaspers' last five games.
Brown has averaged 16.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the last three games. The 6'7" forward from Brooklyn is leading the MAAC with 2.1 blocks per game, and he is second with a 54.4% field goal percentage.
Sophomore forward Emmy Andujar has complemented Brown well, producing consistent statistics in the last five games. Andujar has three double-digit scoring performances during this stretch. He averaged 9.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and has shot 52.9% from the field starting all five games.
Manhattan is averaging nearly 10 more points per game against conference opponents this season. The Jaspers are shooting 75% at the free-throw line and 41.3% from the field in MAAC games.
Saint Peter's (6-6, 1-1 MAAC)
The Peacocks have won three of their last five games, including a 71-69 victory at Central Connecticut on Saturday. Saint Peter's rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half and needed a put back from graduate student Pat Jackson with 11 seconds remaining to upend the Blue Devils.
Saint Peter's stands 1-1 in the MAAC picking up a home victory over Iona (64-62) and losing to Loyola (61-55) at the Izod Center. The Peacocks are led by red-shirt sophomore guard Desi Washington, a transfer from Delaware State. Washington has a 16.2 points per game average and ranks fourth in the MAAC with 31 three-pointers.
Saint Peter's backcourt also consists of senior guards Yvon Raymond (10.9 ppg) and Blaise Ffrench (11.1 ppg) who are also averaging double-figures in 12 starts apiece. Raymond is the Peacocks top rebounder (5.6 rpg), and the 6'3" guard is fifth in the MAAC with a 48.0% shooting mark this season.
The Peacocks are third in the MAAC for points allowed per game this season yielding 64.0 to its opponents. Saint Peter's has let up 70 or more points to only two of its 12 opponents. The Peacocks have won two of their last three games at the Yanitelli Center with their most recent victory coming against LIU Brooklyn (80-67) on Dec. 19.
