Manhattan (4-11, 2-3 MAAC)
The Jaspers have split their last four MAAC games with their most recent victory coming on Jan. 4 at Saint Peter's (55-53). Manhattan dropped a 69-60 decision to Rider on Thursday playing without injured All-MAAC guards George Beamon (16.8 ppg) and Michael Alvarado (8.4 ppg).
Manhattan plays the second contest of a pair of home games when it hosts Marist. The Jaspers have won two of their four contests at Draddy Gymnasium this season and have averaged 71.0 points shooting 45.6% from the field in its wins over Hofstra (Nov. 21) and Siena (Dec. 9). In both wins Manhattan enjoyed double-digit margins of victory.
Junior Rhamel Brown delivered his ninth career double-double Thursday against the Broncs going for 15 points and 11 rebounds in only 21 minutes of action due to foul trouble. The 6'7" forward from Brooklyn has been a force for the Jaspers posting double-digits in the scoring column in each of the last six games. During this stretch, Brown has averaged team-highs with 15.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 1.7 steals per contest.
Brown is the MAAC leader in field goal percentage (55.7%) and blocked shots (2.4 bpg). He also ranks fourth in the conference with a 7.1 rebounding average.
Freshmen Shane Richards and CJ Jones have stepped up for the Jaspers earning extra minutes in the absence of Beamon and Alvarado. Richards is coming off a team-high 18 point effort against Rider, which also matched his career-high in scoring. The 6'5" forward from New York City knocked down six three-pointers against the Broncs. Richards has buried 21 of his team-high 26 threes in the last six games and has averaged 11.8 points during this stretch.
Jones delivered back-to-back solid performances. On Sunday, the point guard from Chicago scored eight points on 3-for-5 shooting at Iona. Then on Thursday, Jones set career-highs with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes off the bench. He averaged 9.5 points and shot 46.7% from the field during this two game stretch.
Manhattan has averaged 63.6 points per game shooting 41.5% in league contests. Brown (13.8 ppg) and Richards (11.2 ppg) are averaging double-figures in scoring against MAAC opponents.
Marist (4-12, 1-4 MAAC)
The Red Foxes are on a six game losing streak and are coming off an 86-82 loss at home to Iona on Thursday. Marist visits Draddy Gymnasium with a 1-6 road record. The Red Foxes are 2-8 this season when playing away from McCann Arena.
Marist is led by sophomore guard Chavaughn Lewis and senior guard Devin Price who are each ranked in the top-10 of the MAAC in scoring. Lewis has a team-high 29 steals, while Price is Marist's top three-point shooting threat with 35 treys this season. Price stands fourth in the conference for three-point field goals made and Lewis is third with 1.7 steals per game.
The Red Foxes are averaging 63.8 points, but have yielded 72.0 per contest. Junior Adam Kemp, a 6'10", 230-pound forward from Sherrill, N.Y., has also started all 16 games for Marist. Kemp is third in the MAAC in rebounding (7.4 rpg) and second in blocks per game (1.6).
