RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
The Manhattan women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Sacred Heart (2-2) on Sunday in Fairfield, Conn. The Jaspers could not battle back from a two goal deficit after Pioneers' senior Ashley Moore got on the scoreboard in the ninth minute and classmate Jen Mulvey tallied the game winning goal in the 52nd minute.

Moore capitalized on a bending drive from the right side that found the back of the net from 20 yards out. Mulvey gave the Pioneers a two goal cushion when she finished a penalty kick with 51:45 on the clock.

Manhattan (1-2) made a late push that featured junior forward Martine Diamond's first goal of the season in the 87th minute assisted by freshman Emily Ude. Ude, the Jaspers' leading scorer with three points this season, managed to fire one last shot attempt in the 89th minute that sailed wide of the goal as Sacred Heart held off Manhattan.

Senior goalkeeper Kara Davis made seven saves in 90 minutes of work for the Jaspers. Davis posted six of her saves in the first half. Sacred Heart split halves in net between sophomore Talia Schwartz and Sudney Judkins. Schawartz held Manhattan scoreless and made one save in the first half, while Judkins stopped four shots in the last 45 minutes.

Manhattan looks forward to its first home match of the 2012 campaign this Friday when the Jaspers host Lafayette. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
