RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
Junior midfielder Martine Diamond sent the Manhattan women's soccer team off with another exciting home victory by posting the game winning goal in overtime to top Wagner (3-5-0) 1-0 on Wednesday at Gaelic Park. Jaspers' goalkeepers Kara Davis and Kristen Skonieczny tallied a total of seven saves to secure the combined shutout as Manhattan (3-3-0) won its second game in the last six days.

Manhattan went to overtime for the first time this season after missing on a few prime scoring opportunities late in the second half. Diamond made up for sailing a point blank shot attempt just above the crossbar in the 80th minute with her game winning header only three minutes into overtime. Junior transfer Aislinn McIlvenny set the play up with a precise feed across goal. The pass found Diamond who was charging the net and she hammered it in the left side past Wagner goalkeeper Lisa Capelli.

Davis made three saves as she patrolled the pipes for the first 45 minutes of action. It was her third straight scoreless half as she lowered her goals against average to 0.67. Skonieczny, a freshman from Lagrangeville, N.Y., registered a season-high four saves over the final 48 minutes of the match to receive credit for her second win of the year.

The first half featured key scoring opportunities that were silenced by the opposing defense. In the 21st minute, Manhattan senior back Allison Pfeiffer  nearly scored on a corner kick that was blocked by the Seahawks' defense on the goal line. Then at the opposite end of the field in the 41st minute, Davis was forced to make a tough leaping save on Wagner sophomore forward Alyssa Azzinaro's shot that was deflected in front of the net.

Jaspers' junior midfielder Alex Iovine  tested Capelli who came up with a big save in the 55th minute after freshman forward  Tiffanie McIntosh fed the ball back to her for an open look inside the box. The Manhattan defense dodged the last bullet of regulation in the final seconds during a scramble in front of the goal. Skonieczny blocked the ball, and then Pfeiffer and freshman back Taylor Salkowsky pounced on the loose ball to knock it away as time expired.

Diamond and junior forward Janie Schlauder combined for 10 of Manhattan's 15 shot attempts. The goal marked Diamond's second career game winning strike, both coming at Gaelic Park.

With the win, Manhattan carries momentum into its match at Stony Brook on Friday at 5 p.m. The Jaspers then embark on a four game homestand beginning with Holy Cross on September 22.
