LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Coming off an emotional 13-12 victory over Marist at home on Wednesday, the Manhattan women's lacrosse team took back to the road but could not keep the momentum falling 14-4 at Siena on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The loss drops the Jaspers to 3-8 (1-2, MAAC) while the Saints improved to 3-9, 1-2, in the league.
The contest began as a back and forth affair with teams trading goals through the first seven minutes of action. Carly Eskenazi and Donna Jo DiNorcia were both able to find tying goals early on before Kelsey Rehain put Manhattan on top for the first time a 3-2 with 23:12 to play in the first half.
From that point on it would be all Saints as they scored the next twelve goals of the game, taking a 9-3 lead into halftime. Siena's Deirdre McQuillan led all scorers with five goals, and one assist, scoring four in the first half.
Manhattan struggled to maintain a presence in the offense half of the field as they were outshot 35-19, including 21-9 in the first half. The Jaspers also turned the ball over 22 times and forced 18 miscues from Siena. The Saints were able to win 12 of 20 draw controls and keep the Jaspers to just 14-23 in clear attempts.
Four other Siena players scored multiple times in the game as they led 14-3 late before Brianna Rickert earned her second goal of the season with under a minute remaining in regulation.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli continued her trend of double digit saves, making 11 in the loss. Siena's Kristin Concordia played 53 total minutes making seven saves in the win before being removed for Danielle DeLisio late in the contest.
The Jaspers are on the road once again on Wed., April 11 as they travel to Fairfield for a 3 p.m. conference showdown.
